ISLAMABAD, 28 March 2025 – Mr. Avazbek Atakhanov,
Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Islamic Republic of
Pakistan, paid a courtesy call on the Ambassador-Designate, Dr.
Emmanuel R. Fernandez, last 28 March 2025.
Ambassador Atakhanov highlighted the importance of
promptly arranging the meeting and used the opportunity to discuss
the potential for enhancing diplomatic engagement and cooperation
between the Philippines and Kyrgyzstan. The conversation touched on
a range of issues, including the Philippines’ trade relations with
Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan’s economic ties with Kazakhstan—particularly in
uranium production and critical minerals—and the strategic
importance of Central Asia.
In addition, the discussion addressed the status of
bilateral relations between the Philippines and Kyrgyzstan.
Ambassador-Designate Fernandez noted that the jurisdiction over
Philippines-Kyrgyzstan bilateral relations has been formally
transferred to the Philippine Embassy in Tehran, although consular
matters remain under the jurisdiction of the Philippine Embassy in
Islamabad.
The meeting also covered the ongoing campaign for a
Non-Permanent Seat on the United Nations Security Council. Both the
Kyrgyz Republic and the Philippines are vying for the seat. In
keeping with the Department’s diplomatic principles,
Ambassador-Designate Fernandez reaffirmed that the Philippines
maintains mutual respect and goodwill toward all contenders.
The meeting concluded with an emphasis on the
strategic significance of ASEAN, with both parties underscoring the
importance of international cooperation and the rule of law in
maintaining global stability and order. Both sides expressed their
commitment to continuing dialogue on these important matters in the
